Major Horizontal Directional Drilling Project completed extending New Water Network in Southern Region

Joseph Cachia & Son Ltd (JCS) has been entrusted with supporting the €4.7 project to connect three reservoirs at Bulebel, Tas-Silg and Misrah Strejnu to the Sant Antnin Plant. The Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) works have been successfully carried out by our longtime Principals/Partners Bianco Impianti. The polished water from Ta` Barkat Treatment Plant in Xghajra reaches Sant Antnin Plant by gravity. From this location, water will be distributed to the three reservoirs. To accomplish this concept, the proposed infrastructure has been carried out by trenchless methods (mainly through Horizontal Directional Drilling) using an internal diameter of 350 mm. The main scope of this project was to drill and pull/push through trenchless methods a system of high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes from Bulebel (l/o Zabbar) to Sant Antnin Tratment Plant in Marsascala, and from the latter to Misrah Strejnu, Tas-Silg Reservoir and Habel L-Abjad Reservoir (limits of Zejtun and Marsaxlokk).

This HDD project has now been completed thus highlighting the Water Services Corporation’s commitment towards extending the availability of New Water for the agricultural sector.
